Flying Fish Cafe
This high class dining experience is located in the Boardwalk Resort, and let me tell you it is delicious. My family and I have only dined here once, but I would return in a heart beat. We had heard rave reviews on this restaurant, and about a week before our vacation, we decided to make a reservation here for the night we arrived at our resort. My dad and I kept the reservation a secret from the rest of my family, and it was a pleasant surprise for them when they discovered where we were going. Now, forewarning, Flying Fish Cafe is definitely on the pricier side. Make sure to come to dinner with a bulge in your pocket.
The interior of the restaurant is very interesting and very unique! It has a carnival theme to it, with subtle details of the flying fish here and there. For example, there are fish-hook light fixtures at the entrance of the restaurant. It was lots of fun to look around and observe the place while waiting for our table to be ready.
The complementary bread service here is not just the standard dinner rolls given around the Disney Resort. Instead it is a loaf of potato bread! It was so moist and delicious, I could not believe it. It especially tasted good dipped in the soup I ordered (more on that later). If you were lucky, sometimes there was an actual chunk of potato in your bread! My family, being starving when we arrived since we had just been in the car for about 18 hours, attacked our loaf of bread. It was gone in a matter of seconds. Our server happily brought out another loaf though!
For a starter, I ordered a soup. Like many things on the Flying Fish menu, this soup was seasonal, and the name of what the soup escapes me. I believe that it was a Seafood Chowder though, or a Lobster Bisque. Even though I don't remember exactly what it was, I do remember the love I have for this soup!!! It was very creamy and was so rich, it had a subtle almost chocolate taste. The soup also had large amounts of lobster, shrimp, scallops, and other seafood meat hidden underneath the creamy texture. I didn't realize how much was in it until I started eating it! The potato bread tasted delicious dipped in the broth, fyi. If there's some sort of seafood chowder on the menu when you go, take your chances and order it. I bet it's the soup I got!
For my entree, I just HAD to order what they're known for. I ordered Flying Fish Cafés Idaho Potato-wrapped Red Snapper served with a creamy leek fondue, and veal glace de viande-red wine-cassis butter. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect, but I was not disappointed with the outcome. The fish was perfectly cooked, and the taste of the potato wrapped around it complemented the fish wonderfully. I believe it was on a base of cabbage, and that was absolutely delicious. The sauce accompanying the fish was also very yummy. It went perfectly with all the other tastes.
In addition to my order, I had to order a side of the creamy risotto di carnaroll. Flying Fish is known for their risotto, and for good reason. It is honestly the best risotto I have ever had. Instead of the traditional smaller grains of rice, their risotto is made with bigger chunks of it. I wish I hadn't been so full though. I found myself stuffing myself with the risotto, and I couldn't stop, because it was so good!!!! I highly recommend getting a side of this. Just, maybe share it between two people, even though you may not want to!
Overall, this is probably one of the best dining experiences I've had on Disney property. Like ever. The food was DELICIOUS, the service was EXCELLENT, and the experience was WONDERFUL! At the end of the meal, our server even brought out complementary swedish fish, which my brother quickly ate up. But, let me tell you, I was waddling out of that restaurant at the end of our meal, because I was so dang full! I highly recommend coming to dine here. It is most definitely worth it!!!! BOOK YOUR RESERVATION NOWWWWW!!!!
